NL - “Today is a Thousand Seasons” is een langlopend project over gemeenschappen in de Alpenregio. Lokale rituelen, zoals winterverdrijvingen en oogstfeesten, worden er al eeuwenlang beoefend. Het project richt zich op de jongeren die deze rituelen levend houden, degenen achter de kenmerkende maskers en kostuums. Het eren van oudere generaties is vaak een motivatie, maar ook het belang binnen de gemeenschap. De tradities versterken een diepe verbondenheid met omliggende natuur. Geworteld in seizoenscycli, nodigen ze uit om mee te gaan in de ritmes van het weer, dag en nacht, maar ook de voortdurende transformatie van de natuur. In plaats van de mens los van de natuur te plaatsen, benadrukken ze de onderlinge afhankelijkheid. “Today is a Thousand Seasons” is een verkenning van traditie, transformatie en de identiteit van jongeren in de Alpenregio.

ENG - “Today is a Thousand Seasons” is an ongoing project about communities in the Alpine region. Local rituals, such as winter banishments and harvest festivals, have been passed down for centuries. This project focuses on the ones behind the distinctive masks and costumes, the the younger generation, who sustain these rituals. Honoring the elders is often a motivation, as well as its significance within the community. Rooted in seasonal cycles, these practices invite participation in the rhythms of weather, day and night, but also the ongoing transformation of nature. Rather than positioning humans as separate from nature, they emphasize interdependence and foster a deeper connection with the natural environment. “Today is a Thousand Seasons” is an exploration of tradition, transformation and identity among youth in the Alpine region.
